If you are working on a nonfiction project and would like some extra support, I can help in the ways outlined below. To get a conversation started, submit a description of your project in the contact form.

Book Proposal Development

When it’s time to solidify the concept of your book into a proposal, there are some important questions to consider: Who is your primary audience? How will you reach them? How does this book build on the work of others, and what makes your book unique? What is the main message that you want to get across, and how will you organize the book in a way accomplishes this most effectively?

As an acquisitions editor, I’ve evaluated countless book proposals, so I know what stands out to publishers. With my industry knowledge, I will help you address these questions, outline the book, and begin drafting an early chapter or two so you have a clear road map going forward.

Developmental Editing

When you are bringing years of lived experience and research to the process of writing a book, it’s easy to get lost in the weeds. As a developmental editor, I will bring fresh perspective to your work, help you identify key themes and maintain a consistent through line across chapters, structure the manuscript in a way that clearly brings your most compelling ideas to the fore, and cut extraneous details that distract from the main points.

Line-Editing

While a developmental edit focuses on the big picture, a line-edit is about the granular details that are essential to conveying your ideas clearly and effectively. I will help you fine-tune language to communicate with greater precision, identify and correct any inconsistencies, and clarify potential sources of confusion that might otherwise trip up your readers. In addition to tightening the writing, I will help you transition seamlessly between ideas and ensure that your intended tone and message come through.

Book Collaboration

Writing a book is both time- and labor-intensive. If you need an extra level of support in the process, I’m here to help. I will work in close collaboration with you to figure out the best game plan going forward based on your unique needs. This can include developmental and line-editing, as well as cowriting portions of the manuscript while ensuring that the voice remains consistent throughout.

Ghostwriting

If you already have a full plate because you’re running a business, speaking as a thought leader in your field, or focused on any number of other responsibilities, you may not have the bandwidth to write a book. As a ghostwriter, I will fully immerse myself in your work to create a book that is true to your vision and voice. By having conversations with you and developing a thorough understanding of your work (including speaking engagements, teaching, interviews, articles and other writing), I will identify the primary purpose of your book, break down the message into organized chapters, and communicate your ideas clearly and effectively, all while remaining authentic to you on the page.
